Der Spiegel:
New war threatening to break out between Serbs and Albanians
Germany's Der Spiegel weekly reported in the latest edition that "there are indicators in Kosovo pointing to a new war," and that "a new armed conflict is threatening to break out between Albanians and Serbs." The weekly says that a former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) commander, Samidin Xhezairi, better known as commander Hoxha, warned in Prizren that "they would start a war if the Kosovo future-status talks take the wrong direction." Explaining that independence from Serbia was the only acceptable option for a vast majority of Kosovo Albanians, Der Spiegel quoted Xhezairi as saying that "every politician who signs anything else is a dead man." According to the Der Spiegel report, Xhezairi has enough weapons, warning that the KLA has never been truly disbanded. The German magazine says that "there is an increasingly loud saber rattling on the Serb side as well." "Policemen in civilian clothes and guerrilla ready to fight have already gathered in the region north of Mitrovica in order to attach northern Kosovo to the motherland, by force if need be," Del Spiegel reported in the article. |
